I am no expert by any means, but I've seen a fair share of attacks that include hogs in them and they seem to work fine when used in moderation or as the main attack force in very specific situations. The things you should keep in mind is that hogs are not meant to tank heavy fire and go for any defensive building, not just the one you want them to go for. This means that if you're using a small force of hogs, they need to take out whatever you need them to take out quickly or they'll die with little headway. If there's a maze of other defensive buildings they have to make it through first, you may wish to think about not using hogs at all.
Supplementation to dragon attacks: There are times when your lightning spells can't take out all the air defenses and you just want to ensure that everything goes smoothly. If there's an air defense that's surrounded by buildings but easily accessible by hogs (and especially if it has little ground defense coverage on it), hogs may help clear that pesky trap away so it doesn't whittle your dragons down when they reach it's range. Lightning one as always, hog the other and let your dragons rampage. Here's an example of a high level Dragon attack with hog supplement.
Low level attacks using hogs in the clan castle: A similar strategy involves the low level giant/archer strategy using hogs instead of giants, wizards or dragons to help clear out defenses keeping the rest of your army intact to deal with non-defensive buildings. Again, a few examples of this: example1, example2, example3
High level attacks using hogs as main force: This one I don't quite understand as much but I've seen many pull it off sometimes better than dragons can. Hopefully Jon can edit this later and add more to this, but until then I'll give what little I know. Hogs, and I must emphasize that I'm talking about level 4 and 5 hogs, work in high level base attacks when the target base is highly honeycombed or cellular. GoWiPe struggles with those sorts of bases and if their air defenses are well placed, hogs can be extremely effective if deployed correctly. Hogs are coupled with healing spells and placement of these spells matter a lot. Try to place them so that the hogs will be in the effected zone as long as possible, they go to the next nearest defense so keep that and the size of the circle spells make in mind. Healing spells are best deployed just before when the pack of hogs are to be under strong aoe fire. Here is a couple of examples of hog attacks: High hog attack with a dragon, pure hog/archer attack
